What could change by setting boundaries?
Career change newsletter
I notice patterns in my career coaching work. People are telling me they work through their lunch breaks, into their evenings and days off. They feel it is expected and necessary, and rarely feels enough.
Over time, the negative impact of this is huge - on the individuals, the company, and society as a whole. We might hope that our hard efforts will be recognised and that one day we’ll be given more free time, but this is mostly a fantasy. In the meantime, people are burning out, considering to quit professions they have worked hard towards, or waiting for something to change.
I have a question for you to explore that can put you back in charge of your time and your energy:
What could change by setting your own boundaries?
Imagine how different life could be if you set boundaries with your time. What could that free up for you?
People worry about the repercussions of change - especially about how others will respond - but can you really keep waiting for someone else to recognise your suffering and exhaustion? Perhaps it is time to make some new choices. What could happen if you take a 1-hour lunch break or finish work on time?

Jenna’s interview on About The Adventure podcast captures a personal journey, documenting her career path from an academic beginning in literature and journalism to a fulfilling career as a counsellor.
Her career change was driven by the realisation of the importance of mental health, empathy, and the need for professional fulfillment. Alongside battling personal challenges like anxiety and burnout, she embarked on counselling training while managing a full-time job as Deputy Editor at Trail Magazine, which gave her the opportunity to reconnect with the mountains and to push herself out of her comfort zone in a restorative way.
